FIRST-AID HERBAL REMEDIES

In combination with bedrest, the following herbal remedies can be used as first aid to stop mild-medium uterine bleeding.

HERBAL TINCTURE

Take 1 dropper full of Yarrow Tincture 3x per day until the bleeding stops.

or

Take 1 dropper full of Lady’s Mantle Tincture 3x per day until the bleeding stops.

I recommend yarrow (Achillea millefolium) tincture because it is the most readily available.

You can also use Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla mollis) tincture at the same dosage.

You can also use Shepherd’s Purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) tincture at the same dosage.

FIRST AID TEA (SHEPHERD’S PURSE, YARROW, LADY’S MANTLE)***

Zaire Sabb shared the following midwifery herbal remedy — equal parts shepherd’s purse, yarrow and lady’s mantle. This remedy is used by midwives to stop postpartum hemorrhage. It can also be used in the case of uterine fatigue to stop heavy bleeding or fresh spotting.

Indications: heavy bleeding, spontaneous bleeding, fresh spotting

Directions: for heavy bleeding mix 1 teaspoon of each herb and steep in 8 ounces of water. Drink the full amount as quickly as possible. Repeat as needed.
For spotting you can mix 1/2 teaspoon of each and steep in 8 ounces of water. Sip 3 cups of tea throughout the day.

*** If you can only find one of the herbs in this blend go ahead and use it as a medicinal level herbal infusion (tea) following the above directions.

MUGWORT TEA (ARTEMISIA VULGARIS or ARTEMESIA ARGYI, AI YE)

Indications: outside of period bleeding, spontaneous bleeding, fresh spotting
Directions:
Steep 1 tsp mugwort in 8 ounces of water. Drink 3 cups of tea throughout the day.
A mugwort bath would also be useful.

GENTLE HERBAL BATH

Take a bath with gentle, hemostatic, or anti-hemorrhagic herbs listed above.

Repeat if bleeding starts to increase again.

GUI PI PIAN – RESTORE THE SPLEEN DECOCTION

These are a safe over-the-counter herbal supplement that can be used as first aid to stop fresh spotting or trickle bleeding. They’re called Gui Pi Pian pills. They are 100% safe and have no side effects or interactions with other medicines. You can order them online, or get them from your local acupuncturist.

IN AN EMERGENCY CASE of excess, heavy bleeding or hemorrhage, seek medical care.

You can take the little red Yunnan Baiyao pill to slow down the bleeding while you get to an emergency room.

The tiny red Yunnan Baiyao Pill is indicated in the following emergency cases where there is heavy or fast flowing bleeding:
-During the normal period (for example, filling up an overnight pad in under an hour)
-Client is on day 5 or longer of the period with a heavy fresh bleed
-Spontaneous interim bleeding that is fresh and heavy
-Peri-menopausal spontaneous bleeding that is sudden and fast-flowing
-An ongoing period (10 days or longer) where the fresh bleeding doesn’t stop and has no end in sight

If you are prone to heavy, flood bleeding, 2 periods per month, or ongoing bleeding it makes sense to go ahead and order Yunnan Baiyao online, or get them from your local acupuncturist, or local Chinese, Vietnamese, or Korean market, just to have them on hand as part of your personal first aid kit.

Note on use of Yunnan Baiyao:
In the above cases, Yunnan Baiyao is an emergency measure to stop bleeding and it is the one tiny red pill in the center of the pill pack it is not the entire pack of capsules. The little red YB pill is simply an emergency aid to stop fast, profuse bleeding while you seek medical care. The rest of the pack of Yunnan Baiyao capsules are not for continual ongoing use in this case. Regular ongoing use can cause issues by creating stagnation and preventing new blood from forming.

Yunnan Baiyao Contraindications:
Blood Thinner Medications
Anticoagulant Medications
Severe irregular heartbeat
Pregnancy (may not be relevant in cases of bleeding however, important to know)
