Welcome
plants ⋒ paintings ⋒ and the elements for tending bodies and spirits.
Imagine the human body as a place. What if the body were viewed as being part of nature like land and water? What if the human body itself were accepted as land and water. What if land and water were viewed as bodies, bodies with sentience, joy, pain and purpose, just like you and me.
In my own way I am working toward the liberation of all three (the human body, land, water) from colonizing forces. Caring for land and water, caregiving to self and others, is an integral force in this liberation.
Art
The human, animate stone-like forms I paint came to me in a dream, and I think of them as a language I can use to talk about the collective of living beings, humans inseparable from nature, as nature itself, a sibling to all life forms.
While collective identities are celebrated, the unique nuance of each individual organism is also valued and understood. These forms hold space for wound healing and grieving, as well as being a container for joy.
This work centers around the human body as a place, as land and water (matter and forces of motion), and talks about care. Caregiving that helps to liberate bodies, land and water from colonizing efforts.
Plant Allies
When working with plants for body care it is miraculous to discover they support you in the physical realm (tissues, organs, fluids), in the energetic realm (emotion, tension), and in the spirit realm via connection and belonging.
