Food Therapy For Weak Digestion

GENTLE DIGESTION FOOD THERAPY GUIDELINES

The first consideration of eating to assist the body in nutrient absorption, when there is weak digestion, is to eat foods that are easy to digest. Aim to be gentle on your digestive system while building back digestive strength.

This means warm, easily digested foods, broths, soups, porridges.

This means sitting while eating, eating slowly, chewing and swallowing with attention, focusing on the flavors while eating, savoring the experience! Being present while eating and not rushing goes a long way to improve digestion.

Foods to consider

  • bitter vegetables and greens help with digestion

  • some people have success with fermented foods and/or Kombucha

  • try not to drink cold beverages when eating a meal.

  • take bitters (tinctures of bitter herbs)

Drink digestive herbal teas

  • mints

  • anise hyssop

  • fennel

  • chamomile

  • ginger

  • cinnamon

  • lemon

  • orange peel
